There's good training info in the book. The book has sold out several times now, I wonder when the next printing will be.

BTW, in the book Manfred explains that he intentionally does not train his forearms because they are counterproductive in strongman competitions. It has something to do with getting your arms around large objects...

I think there are certain people who are so blessed physically that they should be seen by the world and certainly Manfred is one but also "MegaMan" Nathan Jones. At 6-10 and 340 lbs. he is huge but his two dissapointments in WSM were all he's ever been on tv. He should be in the movies or pro wrestling or something.

This has been in the guestbook before. Look through the entries. There is no comparison! Manfred has at least 2 inches on Steiner. The only person that can hang with Manfred is Isaac Nesser, but his arms are not as well defined.

Comments: excellent page, but I have a question. I recently read in a bodybuilding magazine that a guy by the name of Greg Kovacs has the world's biggest arms. The mag says he has 27 inch arms and a 70 inch chest, and he weighs around 400 pounds and thats pure muscles. Could anyone confirm or deny this. Thanks

The last time I checked Greg Kovacs was around 300 lbs and his arms were an inch smaller than Manfred's. I guess I'll have to look him up again but it seems to me that this has to be an exaggeration...

Comments: Manfred rules. He has one of the best physiques around and certainly one of the best arms. But I am afraid his reign as the man with the world's largest muscular arms is over. Check out the latest issue of MusleMag. They have a brief piece on a South African by the name of Jaco Strauss. The guy reportedly is 6-5, 340 pounds, and has 27.8 inch arms. And unlike Scott Steiner and Greg Kovacs, this does not appear to be an exaggeration. Take a look at those pictures and you'll be convinced in a minute too. (MuscleMag is currently doing a feature on him)

I checked out the brief piece in MuscleMag and I'm looking forward to seeing the feature. I had heard rumors about this guy but had never seen pics. The story mentioned that Jaco's arms are bigger than Manfred's or Kovac's. This may be true but keep in mind that Manfred is not as big now as he was before the accident in '94.
Jaco's measurements are definitely exaggerated and Manfred's have been as well. You are supposed to measure them cold and at the side but nobody does that. Some flat out lie, some flex in different ways, I've even seen it where the tape is not orthogonal to the arm (straight cross-section). Then there's the issue of fat. Back in the day there was no off-season but nowadays you have guys that get quite bloated at times. So, does that count?
I'll be willing to accept that Manfred may not currently have the largest arms if that indeed is the case. But I'm not sure who is bigger between '94 Manfred and Jaco. I looked at the pics again closely. I wonder if Jaco's height is exaggerated or not. That is the key. I guess the only way to compare for sure is to chop off the arm at the shoulder and throw it on a scale. ; ) No, seriously, one could use a tank of water and measure volume displacement, then do some fat analysis and calculate lean muscle mass. ; )

All in all, Jaco's arms didn't make the same impression that Manfred's did the first time I saw them. This is probably because I saw Manfred's in the context of strongman competitions. Manfred was arguably the strongest man on the planet in '94 (barely lost to Magnus in WSM, crushed him in World MusclePower Championship). This and he had a bodybuilder physique! Unheard of, strongman competitors are supposed to look like powerlifters. He was freakishly strong... never seen anybody use their arms like he did...

Comments: Well, last week, noe... the week before last week I saw a guy who lifted over 160 kg in bench-press, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, up and.... He did about ten reps. And he was incredible big. I believe I've never seen someone like that before, I have seen a guy who benched 270 kg, but this guy was bigger I think. So: Manfred must be a really, really big monster when people who benches a little bit over 200 max are so big, I'm not talking about the guy who benched 270kg, but the other guy, because he was actually bigger. I want to bench-press 200kg when I'm about 25-30 years, and I know I can because now, when I'm 16, I bench 100kg. That was my comment, and Mr. Paul, please update this page soon.

Comments: Manny you have awesome size arms but it's doubtful that some steroid such as synthol didn't help you in attaining them! There are long term dangers in the use of steroids that far outwar the short term benefits. Among them are kidney and liver disease and psychological addiction from overuse and withdrawal. What's amazing about Manny is that he bridges the gap between bodybuilding and strongmen who usually look like powerlifters or fat circus men. Manny has genectically superior arm size and is better than Nesser, Strauss,Magnus,or Kovac. At his bodyweight and height he's one of the most incredible physical specimens in human history. The only man that can hang with him would be Isaac Nesser listed in the guiness book with 29 inchers after 20 yrs straight of weightlifting. Although Nesser claims to be drug-free and I think it shows in his pugdy like muscalarity. But we must remember Nesser is only 6 feet and weighs 360lbs.Nesser for all his hard work still looks like a pudgy circus man.
